Next steps

We're all completely stunned and crushed by the sudden loss of Gus. There are obviously no magic words or deeds that can change this tragic situation. But we can show the Aaland family how much they mean to us in numerous ways. If you're like most people we've talked to, we all want to "do something" to help, so we have started to organize a couple things:

Meal Calendar

Sign up for a date that you can contribute a meal for Chris, Shelly and Otto. They are not picky eaters and have no food allergies. Meals can be dropped off at Chris' office in the FLC Athletic Department. Meal Calendar Google Spreadsheet. Gift certificates for take-out are a great option; so are gift cards for gas, groceries, etc.

Financial Support

A memorial account in Gus’ name has been established at First National Bank of Durango. Anyone wishing to make a contribution to this account may do so by visiting any of the FNB branches including:

  • the main branch at 259 W. 9th Street
  • Albertson’s branch
  • Wal-Mart branch
  • Bodo branch at 125 Sawyer Drive
  • Bayfield Office at 351 Bayfield Center Drive

Please make checks payable to either "Gus Aaland Memorial Account" or to "First National Bank of Durango" and indicate "Gus Aaland Memorial Account" on the memo line. In addition, checks can be mailed to:

First National Bank of Durango
PO Box 2910
Durango, CO 81302-2910

I can also accept donations via Paypal, but a check is preferred so we can avoid paying any processing fees.

Memorial Service

There will be a service on Wednesday, November 30th at 3pm, at the FLC Concert Hall. There will be a reception following the memorial at roughly 4:30pm, at the Irish Embassy.
